Tutorial 2: Photoshop Watercolor Painting Effect

The second tutorial showed us how to apply a watercolor painting effect to a photo. The photo I chose was one of an autumn tree:


After choosing an image, I followed 11 easy steps to get my final product:
  1. Duplicate the Background Layer Three Times
  2. Turn off the Two Top Layers
  3. Select "Layer 1"
  4. Apply the "Cutout" Filter
  5. Change the Blend Mode of "Layer 1" to "Luminosity"
  6. Turn On The Layer Above "Layer 1" And Select The Layer
  7. Apply The “Dry Brush” Filter
  8. Change The Layer Blend Mode To “Screen”
  9. Turn On The Top Layer And Select It
  10. Apply The “Median” Filter
  11. Change The Blend Mode Of The Top Layer To “Soft Light”
After completing these 11 steps my final product was this:

  1. The final step in creating this multi-layered watercolor masterpiece involves masking and removing paint. First, mask the borders of the restretched painting with masking tape. Also, mask off areas of the painting to create designs and also make lines and shapes by cutting and tearing the tape into various shapes.
